How To Assemble Your KratosX Doorway Climbing Frame and Board

Note: There's no right or wrong way to do this. The following instructions is just one way.  But there are two important points;

  • First, make sure you put the correct bolts into the correct holes.
  • Second, make sure every bolt is completely tightened.

a. Remove the fasteners and knobs from the bag.

  • The (2) 3-inch bolts (the longest ones) and star knobs connects the horizontal crossbar to the J-frames.
  • The (4) 2-1/2 inch carrier bolts and star knobs connects the hangboard to the J-frames.
  • The (2) 2-inch carrier bolts (the shortest ones), lock washers, and 3-arm knobs connects the support bar to the back of the J-frames.

b. Lay the pieces out in front of you.  Connect the two horizontal cross pieces together making sure the two bolt holes are aligned.

c. Place the backboard face down.  Make sure the KratosX is in the lower right corner.

d.  Insert the four (4) 2-1/2" bolts into the holes facing up.

e. Attach both J-frames to the backboard.

e. Attach the horizontal cross-bar to the J-frames.  Pick any set of holes.  The holes near the bottom of the curve is usually the one to use for standard door frames, but you can adjust them later if the board is not at the angle you want.

f. Attach the rear support bar to the back of the J-frame.  Make sure the KratosX logo is readable and facing outward.

g. Tighten all the knobs.  The bolt heads should be recessed into the wood pieces.

How to drill through (or fully penetrate with wood screws) your board without damaging the veneered finish

Our backboards are manufactured with a veneer finish. Drilling or using wood screws that go through the board may damage the veneer (mostly the back) if not done properly.

We recommend one of the following techniques to drill holes into your backboard.
  1. Place a piece of wood underneath your backboard. Press down or clamp the pieces together. Drill through the backboard into the other piece of wood.
  2. Place painters tape on the backside of the board where the hole you intend to drill will be.
  3. Mark the backside of the board where the hole will be placed. Use the drill to penetrate the veneer on the backside. Turn the board over and drill the front side.
If using a wood screw that will go all the way through the board we recommend placing a piece of wood under the board as described above. Apply the screw all the way into the backboard (yes, the other piece of wood will be stuck to the backboard at this point). Now, back the screw out until the wood piece comes off, and then reseat the screw all the way into the board or your hangboard.
